ASSESSMENT
Speech and Language Assessment

A speech / language assessment tests communication and, when appropriate, ties to reading and writing. Both receptive (ability to understand and process information) and expressive (ability to communicate information to others) language competencies are evaluated.

Skills in phonology, articulation, oral motor planning (apraxia), oral motor function, stuttering (dysfluency), auditory memory and social pragmatics are evaluated.

Etiology is identified as organic, developmental or as a result of an insult or trauma. In addition, we assess reading and written language competencies.

Assessments include phonological awareness (an underlying skill affecting reading/spelling) and narrative development (an underlying skill affecting reading comprehension and writing).

These evaluations provide specific information on how language strengths and weaknesses are related to communication, language processing, literacy skills and learning disabilities.
